Kaz Hirai says "it doesn't matter" when Home launches

President of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) Kazuo Hirai has stated that he feels the launch date of PlayStation Home “doesn’t matter” if it means the company is able to provide the best service possible for consumers.
"I'd much rather make sure we take the time to have a great service rather than rush something into the market - only for consumers to say: "This is not enough for me." I want to avoid that," Hirai told MCV.
"If we have the right service, it doesn't matter when we launch - so long as it's in a reasonable timeframe."
The online social networking platform has already been delayed twice in the past; something which Hirai himself has apologised for, though ultimately believes the delay was necessary to deliver a quality product.
"Whether our competitors decide to follow what we've done with Home or not follow us, that's up to them. Given the fact that I've delayed the launch of Home twice - for which I've apologised - I think I've done it for a very good reason, and that's because I want to bring the very best service possible to consumers around the world,” he added.
"We're very confident in when we do launch the open Beta service, it's something that will really resonate with the consumers."
PlayStation Home’s open beta is currently scheduled to begin in late 2008.

That's fuuny, does this mean that home is going to take the same path as the dev's for "duke nuke'em forever" where as in taking your time and remaking the same product over and over again to stay in touch with the latest technology the final product just gets delayed, "forever"!!!! kaz is really starting to anoy me with the garbage that's coming out of his mouth lately, third party dev's are making miracles for the ps3 whilst sony is just letting us down!

What he basically is trying to say is that home will very likely be delayd again, and he wants to make us think that a simple apology will satisfy us. Leave out all the promises that they want to make a quality service and all that shi** and just be prepared for another delay -.-
But I've never really cared for Home, I think most of you guys overestimate it anyway.

Kaz needs to be gagged whenever a reporter get close. He continually undermines the PS3 with one PR blunder after the next.
Bring back Kutaragi-san and big Phil ... at least they knew how to keep us enthusiastic. This, however , just makes me look at the xbox shelf!
And what happened to this Shuhei character, E3 was his perfect launch platform and instead they roll out the word-fumbling Tretton (what was with the Jack Pallance joke ... that's just poor taste).
Well I guess we just have to wait until new management take over before expecting anything near sensible from Sony. The only thing I'll give Kaz any kudos for is when he hands in his resignation.

"so long as it's in a reasonable timeframe". Why on earth did you leave his complete statement out. Please don't take what he says and twist it out of context. He is basically saying I want to release something good but late vs something bad and early.

First at @6
You response is stupid. Answer me this. Do you really want to be 1 of the millions of sheep that get caught up in the hype of something and run it into the ground to be damned until the "next big thing" hits? No? Then stop with the Joker quotes, sheep. You liked The Dark Knight? So did everybody else. Time to let it go. That goes for all of you. And if you're one of the net-geeks that have a Heath-Ledger-as-Joker picture as your icon, I invite you to leave the bandwagon as well. Bandwagon gas is expensive.
*
Anyway, I'm glad to see that many of you have (finally) started to cringe when Kaz opens his out-of-touch mouth. Instead of falling for the bravado. Funny, though. This time he's right, lol! Now, the TITLE of the article tries to make him look like he's up to his ol' getting his gun off routine again, but he has the right attitude. What sucks here is (obviously) Home is not here, not that Kaz has put his foot in his mouth (again).

As i've always sayed, why do you make a 'release date', when your going to "take your time to make the best product ever" ?? There is never going to be anything that is perfect and has 0% faults or errors at release..ever, that is what patches are for.
Reminds me of when GTA IV was delayed for 6 months..., and it was the same excuse "that they wanted to make it better", or something.EDIT: What i mean is that Home is going to have faults and bugs when it is released...even if they delay it for two years..

I totally disagree with Sony on this strategy, I'd rather have a bugged Home an year ago than waiting for all this.
Being not a game, but a social service, it's not really a problem to launch it deffective, as long as the team keeps updating it, actually, I hope that they keep updating it for as long as the service exists, so why don't launch it anyway and fix it during some eternal beta phase?

I've lose my faith in this man and also Sony they are not living up to what they usualy do. Whe the ps2 came out it was also slow but it picked up because of great games and games were release pretty fast not a lot of delays with teh ps3 its one delay after another.

ok PSU, why would you leave othe the other part of the sentence, "so long as it's in a reasonable timeframe"? Stop feeding on negativity, learn to be a real PS site, not a 360 fan disguised one.

Yeah it doesn't matter FOR YOU because you're probably already in the closed beta, I'm fine when they say they're going to delay something to make it better except when we already know it's in a respectable condition and they're delaying it. When they first planned the features of Home they said that it was good enough to be released otherwise they wouldn't have done it but we already know those features are in SO WHY COULDN'T HAVE YOU/THEY PUT IT OUT 3-6 MONTHS EARLIER!!!!!

Whatever it takes Kaz, i have complete faith in your decision. Though, it would be nice to have some morsal of it ASAP to satisfy until the full product comes. Think of it like Mii's, we just want to create our characters and build our spaces, and then the rest of the world can cme a biiiit later in an update.
i dunno that makes sense to me lol

I can understand completely about what he is saying. Just look at xbox when the rush there system out, now they are about 63% fail RROD with there system and it is still going. Most of you don't even think about home when other stuff is going on. We have a line up now vs. the past were we didnt have any games. Now we have games coming out and even more games around when Home comes out. So just chill and don't think about it.

This is why I hate forums and news websites. They just get people mad because of anticipation. Just look back at the NES, you got what you got whenever that may of been and people were satisfied. But now all you see is people hyping things up and following a product in development, then whining their butts off when its not out when they want it or its not how they wanted it to be.

You know what Kazuo? You can't satisfy everybody. As long as the thing isn't crashing every 5 minutes, or messing up people's PS3, just release it already. Get feedback on what the majority of people really want and update it later with those features. It's been delayed long enough and it's become a big joke.

MS doesn't steal other people's ideas until they can tell that they're good. like at the last e3 when they announced they had this amazing new controller for scene it which looked strangely similar to the one from buzz, and the time they decided to put hdmi sockets in their console and make them black. So it's doubtful that there's going to be second life on the 360 until home has been released for at least a year apart from the fact second life doesn't really work on a gaming platform to launch games from

Has this man ever heard of Updates?! He could of launched the Beta last year and kept just putting updates here and there, because that what a Beta is. Its a test to see what's wrong with the product and how to improve it! All if not most of the bugs better be fixed at the rate they've been delaying. If this thing gets launched and has alot of errors, I'm gonna be really disappointed and possibly give up on Home.

What I would prefer, is a reason to actually give a d@// about this thing in the first place. Honestly, there is NO point. It's just stupid. I'll give it a month of interest at the most, and then no one will care anymore. It just seems stupid and pointless. Honestly, I would really like to know what's special about having a digital house and talking to people, and nothing else

i dont care. i'd rather wait. its not going to be a mindblowing experience anyway. it'll be a much bigger blunder if it ships and has a lot of problems, in which case you little babies will cry more over it and there will only have to be more apologising.

he's right and you have to realize hes saying with in a reasonable time frame not 5 years from now if you read the article it puts it in to context its not that he doesnt care he wants home to be right he doesnt want ALL THE DAMN WHINERS to say "oh well after all the delays this isnt good enough" kaz harai isnt my favorite person either but he is right
THE TITLE COMPLETELY TAKES THE QUOTE OUT OF CONTEXT SHAME OF YOU ON PSU, AND PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN THE WHOLE STORY BEFORE MAKING STUPID ASSUMPTIONS READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE BEFORE COMMENTING
