Rockstar Games has said that development on the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV is “virtually complete”, adding more fuel to suggestions that the upcoming crime romp will hit shelves on April 29, 2008.
News comes following an extensive preview by website CVG, where a representative for the company stated, "The game is in a very, very different place now," adding, "It's improved in virtually every single way imaginable.
"When we first showed the game a year ago, we said it was really early - it was the earliest we've ever shown a GTA game. A year later and just three/four months away from release you're looking at a game that's virtually complete."
The rumoured April 29 release date, first reported by trade website MCV, has been the favour of hot topic for several weeks now, putting the game’s release at the tail end of Take-Two’s fiscal fourth quarter.
CVG’s preview highlights that the developers are currently polishing up a few details and organising licensing for the copious amounts of music to be featured in the final product. However, the preview code is said to be “looking rock solid.”
Grand Theft Auto IV is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Awesome! Cant wait.... (sorry I could not resist) OK I 'll actually type something more fitting a third post.
If GTA 4 does hit shelves April what will it be selling against? With all the delays and me not knowing Xbox titles, what other games will it have to compete with?
It's a monster title not far off MGS 4 level considering the amount of sales it has achieved in previous years. It will be interesting to see the volume of sales across Xbox 360, PC & PS3 platforms. I think a lot of publishers will be interested to see if PS3 can host a profitable business for them or not. EA, THQ, Namco dont think it can and have shifted focus away but what does Konami think? I guess we will see soon enough.

I agree @ScaR- free roaming is growing in popularity.
The idea behind games like Ubisoft FarCry 2 is attractive to me for that very reason. You can grab a hand glider or a 4WD and go check out the scenery & wildlife of Africa, get into misschief when & where you want, and choose the objectives you want to achieve in whichever order you want. GTA series is famous for this sort of thing except its a big city full of animals... "Say goodnight mr Diaz"...LOL

For sure - Im going PC on this one as well because it will run at 2560 x 1600 on my 30" display plus better graphic settings (AA etc...) - there are no annoying load times, but more importantly I get access to more mods, and the game sells for less on PC...go figure. Its better and its cheaper.
BUT... for those without a PC, is PS3 the best console for this game? and how will it sell?

@the janitor This game is in a class and genre of its own so it doesnt matter what its released against, it could be released alongside Halo fikkin 12 or Haze or GT and it would still sell. This game has a HUGE fan base and will sell no matter what...........bring it on

@rickaos, I agree - as I said earlier GTA is at or near MGS levels as far as fan base goes.
Reason I'm curious as to what other games comes out around April is those other games will likely struggle.
My question - how will it sell? I agree GTA will sell big time BUT how will PS3 copies fair against Xbox 360 & PC. I'm personally going PC on this one but I think Xbox 360 will outsell PS3 copies 2:1 (if not better). If so, there might be repercussions...

@TheJanitor: You couldn't possibly be The Cleaner in disguise could you? It looked to me like his account got jacked and now you pop up. Of course, you guys do have a 5-year age difference...
