New Line Cinema has announced a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film franchise, with Kevin Tancheroen heading up the direction of the new feature film. Tancheroen, who directed the MK: Legacy web series, impressed New Line so much that they wanted to give him a job in directing the new film.
President of New Line Cinema, Toby Emmerich, told the LA Times that the release of the new Mortal Kombat game and Tanchereon's web series "prompted" them to reboot the movies.
"The new game and the online shorts have prompted us to consider a reboot of a brand we hadn't been actively thinking about," said Emmerich.
Sadly, the rebooted film may not see the light of day for some time, as the rights to the series are still being questioned, as Warner Bros and Lawrence Kasanoff (producer of the original films) continues in the courts.
However, you can still check out our video comparison below between the original film and what the new film may look like.
