Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has said developer NetherRealm hasn’t ruled out the possibility of doing another crossover title following 2008’s Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Quizzed by G4 on the prospect of doing another MK crossover title, Boon replied, “We absolutely have thought about it.”
However, he noted that MK’s emphasis on violence and gore has made it difficult to find a suitable game to pair it with, considering most brawlers fall into the ‘Teen’ category.
“But we’ve all dreamt with crossing over with Street Fighter or Tekken. Killer Instinct was also one that was coming up since they were an M-rated game as well. But I’ll tell you that we’ve had many, many conversations along those lines,” said Boon.
Elsewhere, the Mortal Kombat overlord also said that MK 2011’s fatalities initially caused a few hiccups when factoring Kratos into the mix, and revealed what characters from other fighter games he’d like to featured the series.
“The guys at Sony Santa Monica were as protective of Kratos as we are with our characters. At first, they were a little adverse to seeing fatalities performed on Kratos. But once they opened up to that idea, all of our characters certainly have that done on them, they were cool with it,” he commented.
“To me, it’d be cool to see other characters from other fighting games, Ken and Ryu from Street Fighter or someone from Tekken would be fun ones as well.”
