Naughty Dog talks about how combat has evolved for The Last of Us in video interview

Game Informer had the chance to sit down with Naughty Dog and talk shop about what the esteemed development team is bringing to the table in terms of combat in The Last of Us. According to game director Bruce Straley and creative director Neil Druckmann, the combat in The Last of Us is unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Enemy AI has been tweaked and fine-tuned to create a “sense of lethality and reality” for the player at all times while in combat. Having to struggle with the balance of power, players will find themselves strategizing depending on if weapons/ammo are readily available to the player or enemies. Ellie will be more useful companion than most AI-controlled side-kicks, as she’ll make her own decisions; she’ll even throw objects at enemies, move from cover to cover, all while never breaking stealth.

The Last of Us is still slated for a late 2012 release, and if Naughty Dog succeeds on upping the ante even more than they did with Uncharted, then you can color us excited.
