GTA V unlikely to launch in pre-holiday 2012, says Michael Pachter

8 June 2012

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes Grand Theft Auto V is unlikely to be released in time for the 2012 holiday season.

The analyst previously expected the hotly-anticipated crime sequel to be released in October 2012, putting it out in the same time frame as Resident Evil 6 and Assassin’s Creed III. However, Pachter now reckons this won't be the case.

The reason? Unsurprisingly, it all boils down to the game’s no-show at E3 this week.

"There was no announcement of Grand Theft Auto V at the show, making a pre-holiday release less likely," said Pachter, in a note to investors this week.

"Company management confirmed that it would most likely notify retailers of a GTA release 3 – 4 months prior to launch, suggesting that a GTA release date announcement is virtually certain to occur by November."

GTA V was announced last November by way of a brief teaser trailer, though nothing else on the game has been since.
