In many ways, Resistance 3 represents the best that Insomniac's shooter series has to offer - creative weapons, excellent level design, and a palpable sense of fear. We also enjoyed the franchise's first portable outing, Resistance: Burning Skies, giving it an 8.0. It comes as sad news, then, that things aren't looking good for the series' future.
A few months back, Insomniac Games announced that Resistance 3 would be the last Resistance game it developed. Hope sprang eternal when Burning Skies launched for PlayStation Vita a few weeks ago, but according to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Online producer Daniel Brooke, the series may have it a road block. Speaking to OPM UK, Brooke said, “The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on but as for the future we have no definitive plans.”
It's amazing to think that a series which quite literally gave life to the PlayStation 3's launch could be no more, but it's important not to jump to conclusions. Sony has always offered fans the very best lineup of exclusive IP, and Resistance is a big name to the PlayStation Nation. All the same, Resistance 3 did not sell particularly well, and critical reception of Burning Skies has been, on the whole, lukewarm.
Tell us what you think of this news in the comments below. Should Sony continue to divert resources to keep Resistance alive? Would those development efforts be better suited elsewhere? What did you think of Burning Skies?
