Camilla Luddington, the English-born actress who stars in HBO’s True Blood, will voice Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider game. The 29-year-old actress also starred alongside David Duchovny in Showtime’s Californication.
Luddington, in addition to voice acting, will also do all the motion-capture for Lara Croft, making her the first to do both vocal and body talents for the Tomb Raider star. She was chosen after an intermnational search by Crystal Dynamics.
“This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics. “This Tomb Raider game is very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction.”
That new direction sees a 21-year-old Croft in an origins story. She fights for survival on a remote tropical island. It’s expected to be a much grittier game, and the developer has raised some eyebrows for its strong sexual content.
If you want to meet Luddington, she will appear on Comic-Con panels in San Diego next month. The game is out in March 2013.
