At a recent press event, Gearbox Software detailed the all-new Badass Points system in Borderlands 2.
As you unload bullets throughout the vast Pandorian wastes, you'll earn Badass Points for performing various feats of incredible skill or dedication. Think of these feats as in-game achievements (not necessarily tied to Trophies) that reward you with Badass Points for your effort. These points are for more than just bragging rights, however. Accrued Badass Points will convert to Badass Tokens that can be spent to unlock permanent stat boosts that are shared across all characters in your profile. For example, upping fire rate for all gun types by 0.4% might cost one Badass Token, as would raising scoped accuracy by a similar amount.
Purists, breathe easy - the Badass Points system can be disabled at any time if you'd prefer not to have new characters affected by the profile-wide stat boosts, or if you just don't like the idea to begin with. That said, the game's depth is starting to become nothing short of alarming.
