Xander Davis, former employee of Darksiders 2 Vigil Games, spoke out about the lack of credit that he received for his work on Darksiders 2.
Via Davis' Twitter page, Davis brought to light the "price game devs pay" in order to make games. He told the heads of Vigil Games that the previously set goals wouldn't "fit in the time to ship" the game, and Vigil let him go. Since Davis wasn't on the final staff list for Darksiders 2, he didn't receive credit for doing any work on the title; Davis rebuilt the entire UI of Darksiders 2 right before he was let go. Apparently, Davis' replacement was given such a daunting task to push the game to ship that he threatened to quit.
Davis was able to speak with his boss, and they came to terms that all employees, whether existing or otherwise, should be credited with their work. It's terrible to see that game developers can be discredited for their long hours making games, but some employees apparently have to put up with it. Needless to say, Xander Davis still promotes Darksiders II, because the end product is still great and everyone involved, credited or otherwise, worked very hard on it.
