Insomniac Games and Electronic Arts have revealed that new IP Fuse – the cooperative-based shooter formally known as Overstrike – will land at retail in March 2013.

Designed for four-player co-op, Fuse sees gamers battling against the game’s eponymous alien energy source as Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble or Naya Deveraux, where team work is the name of the game.

Co-op may be the centrepiece of the action, but Insomniac has ensured single-player enthusiasts don’t feel left out either by allowing solo players to switch between the four characters on the fly. This feature, known as LEAP, will give gamers the opportunity to experience each character’s unique attributes on the battlefield.

Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Games, commented: “Fuse demonstrates what Insomniac does best: outlandish and gruesome weapons design, over-the-top action and a touch of humour.”

“We’re especially excited to see how players utilize lethal teamwork by combining their Fuse weapons to stop a deadly arms race.”

As reported earlier on, there is currently no trailer for Fuse available at present, as Price reiterates:

“We had an awesome trailer planned and finished. Unfortunately a last-minute legal-rights issue has prevented us from releasing the trailer as planned,” he said. “EA is trying to obtain the necessary approvals and we hope to bring the trailer to you soon. After discussing internally, we wanted to stop the countdown and explain what happened.”
