EA Sports’ FIFA 13 is now officially the biggest sports videogame of all time, having sold a whopping 4.5 million units in the five days following its release.
The figure makes the footie outing the biggest title of 2012 so far. The game has topped the charts in 40 countries, including the U.K., where it shifted a massive 1.23 million copies in just 48 hours. The FIFA franchise is one of only two franchises to shift over a million in the U.K. in just 24 hours, the other being Call of Duty.
Elsewhere, EA confirmed that 800,000 gamers took FIFA 13 online on September 30, 2012, making it the busiest online day for an EA game in the publishing giant’s history. A total of 66 million online matches have been logged to date, which equates to 600 million minutes.
EA Sports’ Andrew Wilson commented: “FIFA Soccer 13 is a critical and commercial success unprecedented in sports entertainment.”
“Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said - FIFA Soccer 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created."
