Last week we reported that Future Publishing would be shuttering the Official PlayStation Magazine in North America, and now it has emerged that a further two mags have suffered the same fate across the pond – PSM3 and Xbox World.
The move comes as part of a focus on digital entertainment, says Future, with the final issue for both magazines going on sale on December 12, 2012.
Future Publishing’s head of entertainment, Claire Porteous, commented: “After careful consideration, Future has made the decision to close Xbox World and PSM3 magazines with the final issues going on sale on December 12.”
“This decision has been taken as Future continues to focus on its strategy on accelerating digital growth across its international digitally-focussed brand business. Future’s gaming portfolio saw over 14m unique users for October 2012 – up over 20% on October 2011. We intend and fully expect there to be no redundancies and will be looking to redeploy all staff within the business.”
Official PlayStation and Official Xbox magazine will not be affected, however, with Future stating it “will continue to publish” both magazines.
PSM3 dates back to 2000 when it launched as PSM2, publishing over 160 issues. Xbox World arrived in 2003 under Computec Media, before being snapped up by Future later that year.
According to CVG, Future is attempting to “redeploy affected staff across the business.”
