Sony has responded to Walmart’s posting of a spring 2013 launch date for The Last of Us.
The launch window was spotted on a pre-order card and sent to IGN via a reader’s news tip. The card clearly states spring 2013 as the game's the launch window, which up until now had remained ambiguous.
However, Sony has insisted that gamers shouldn't read too much into the date.
“We haven’t announced any release date. Walmart is speculating,” a company representative later told IGN.
The Last of Us is currently in development at Naughty Dog, and takes the form of a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the U.S., where mankind has been devastated by a fungal outbreak. Players control a chap named Joel who must escort fellow survivor Ellie (controlled by the A.I.) out of the quarantine zone while battling both regular and infected humans.
More information on the game is expected to drop at the Spike Video Game Awards later this month. Stay tuned.
