Multiplayer beta for God of War: Ascension is set to launch on January 8 for PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony officials announced today. Those who participated in the Rise of the Warrior experience and belonged to the winning Spartan teams get first dibs on beta, which starts for them today. If you were a Trojan, you'll have access starting on Dec. 16.
There's also a new multiplayer trailer to show you just what you can expect from this action rampage.
During multiplayer beta you'll have a chance to play in the Team Favor of the Gods mode and the Favor of the Gods mode, which is similar to the former but without teams. Both modes allow you to fight to reach a specific number of favor points from the Gods. You'll earn points for every kill, bonus brutal kills, opening chests, capturing domination points, and performing executions using the Spear of Olympus.
Maps in Ascension are broken into larger map, featuring open environments, and more compact arenas. One newly announced arena includes the Forum of Hercules level. Beta also includes the chance to play through a tutorial level and test your might with Zeus and Ares. You can also check out the player customization options and upgrade system.
