Sony Computer Entertainment America President & CEO Jack Tretton has outed the price range of PlayStation 4 games: $0.99 to $60.
Speaking with CNBC, Tretton explained the decision on PS4 game pricing was "designed with the game developer in mind and the consumer in mind." When asked if the console business model still works, he replied "I think people are willing to pay if they see the value there" and if game publishers can justify "the $60 price point and will give people hours and hours of gameplay on a daily basis for months & years to come."
Tretton stated that Sony is open to free-to-play model for PS4 games as well.
PS4 games not exceeding the current standard of $60 is good news for consumers. Does Sony explicitly stating the price range mean that there will be further segmenting of the market? Will publishers feel open to diverging from the $60 standard pricing model?
