Santa Monica Studios revealed a new multiplayer mode for God of War: Ascension called Trial of the Gods.
This new mode is much more like how the single player experience works, except it can be done with a friend. Trial of the Gods is a co-op mode for two people, and, like all survivor modes, players will fend off waves of enemies. To make things more interesting, Trial of the Gods also has a time limit, which can be elongated by both killing enemies and finishing rounds quickly.
Level designer Andrew Chrysafidis had this to say: "With Trial of the Gods, we wanted to help bridge the single player and multiplayer experience, giving players a chance to work on their skill-set and gain valuable experience points with a friend, before jumping into the competitive arena."
Since this is the first God of War title with multiplayer, Santa Monica seems set to allow fans and players time to acclimate to the new concept by bridging single player and multiplayer with Trial of the Gods. Though it may seem weird for some, Santa Monica looks to have created the online components to cater to single-player faithfuls so everyone can enjoy it.
God of War: Ascension will be hitting PlayStation 3's everywhere next week, March 12.
