Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon set in '80s VHS vision of the future'

8 April 2013

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the upcoming spin-off outing for Ubisoft’s celebrated open-world shooter, is due out on May 1.

That’s at least according to an Xbox.com listing for the expansion, which will be a standalone experience and won’t require a copy of Far Cry 3 to actually play. It’s due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360.

Not only that, but Blood Dragon will reportedly star Michael Biehn, who is perhaps best known for his part as Kyle Reece in The Terminator among other such 80s classics.

Blood Dragon takes place in 2007, specifically “an 80s VHS vision of the future” where Biehn’s character is tasked with facing off against a rogue cyborg army. Essentially, you must “get the girl, kill the baddies and save the world.”

Of course, all the info we have on the game is via leaks; Ubisoft has yet to actually make an official announcement on the expansion.  However, with a release due in less than a month, we shouldn’t have long to wait.

Earlier in the year, Jeffrey Yohalem, lead writer on Far Cry 3, said, “I’m working on something now that will be surprising, I think, when it’s announced.

“But it definitely is a ‘strike while the iron’s hot’ thing, and we’ll see.”
