Sony has described PlayStation 4 as another addition to its family of consoles, rather than an outright successor to the PlayStation 3.
The general manager for Sony’s Middle Eastern arm of operations also confirmed that the company aims to release its new home console in at least one region this holiday season in the west.
Speaking during a recent interview, he said that “PS4, an addition to the PS family, like PSP and PS Vita, will offer a completely new gaming experience.”
He later added that the platform is ‘not a successor’ to the PS3.
Sony has previously asserted that PS3 will have a lengthy market life, and has made it clear that it aims to remain committed to the system even after the launch of its next-generation console.
PS4 was announced during a special press event in New York City in February, where the company revealed at holiday 2013 launch window for the system.
