Back in late 2011, our first glimpse of Naughty Dog's upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller The Last of Us came via Uncharted 3, where a newspaper in Chapter 1 foreshadowed the game's plot. So maybe it's fitting that our first look at Naughty Dog's secret PlayStation 4 project could be wrapped up in a developer diary for The Last of Us.
The news comes courtesy of IGN, who received a tip from a reader who noticed the scene in the video below.
At the roughly 2:43 mark in this developer diary--Wasteland Beautiful--you can see two mysterious characters on a computer monitor behind concept artist Aaron Limonick. They don't look like anything out of The Last of Us. The closest analog might be the Tibetan villagers of Uncharted 2, but we think there's something else going on here.
IGN's tipster does too. He noted that the characters look like 17th- or 18th-century pirates; at the very least, both seem to be wearing garb of the time.
Of course, there's no guarantee the characters on display aren't flamboyant bandits from The Last of Us, or irrelevant character models without ties to Naughty Dog's PlayStation 4 project, but we wouldn't be surprised if the house that Rubin and Gavin built isn't having a bit of fun with us.
