The creative director for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Ashraf Islamil, said in an interview with Gamespot that the game's multiplayer will not feature naval battles.
Naval battles, introduced to the series in Assassin's Creed III and met with positive reviews, is expected to be a prominent part of the Assassin's Creed 4 experience. Until now, whether or not naval battles would come to the increasingly popular multiplayer mode was a matter of much discussion among the gaming community.
"Naval multiplayer, unfortunately, we don't have it," Ismail said. "It's someting we tried at the beginning, but we didn't feel we can get it to a good enough level for this iteration."
While this news will likely incite much disappointment, it is refreshing to see a developer making difficult decisions for the sake of quality-control. Despite my desire to take the reigns against my friends and other players internationally, I am grateful that Ubisoft won't be wasting gamers' time by adding a broken feature to an otherwise enjoyable multiplayer exprience.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will be releasing for the PS3 on October 29 in North America, and for the PS4 at the console's launch, which may have been leaked.
