Sony confirmed to Joystiq that the movie is officially in the works, though didn't offer any further information on the project.
The Wrap reports that a movie adaptation of PlayStation’s flagship racing series, Gran Turismo, is currently in development.
According to the article, Sony has brought in Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti of Fifty Shades of Grey fame to develop the project. Furthermore, three Sony executives have been given the responsibility of overseeing the film’s production.
GT isn’t the only video game racing series to receive the silver-screen treatment. EA’s Need for Speed franchise is being adapted by DreamWorks for a 2014 release, directed by Scott Waugh.
Developer Polyphony Digital is gearing up for the release of the next instalment in the Gran Turismo series this holiday season. Gran Turismo 6 is due out exclusively for PlayStation 3, though at present there are no plans to release it for Sony’s next-generation console.
