Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III won’t mark the end of the popular Disney-inspired RPG franchise.

Chatting with the LA Times, Nomura-san revealed that only the current story arc will be concluded in the new game, as there was never any plan to end the series with the third numbered title.

“There was never a plan. As a core game, this is finally the third, and ten years have passed,” said Nomura-san.

“In Kingdom Hearts 3, the battles that the characters have been fighting for the past ten years will come to a conclusion. That is the plan. But the series will continue. Only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past ten years will come to an end.”

Speaking of his ten-year working relationship with Disney, he added:

“What world is available for the title is an important question. The counterpart that I’ve been working with at Disney the past ten years is the same person.

We have very heated discussions about this franchise, and we’ve done that for the past ten years, but we have a steady relationship.”

Kingdom Hearts III was fully unveiled at Sony’s E3 presentation last month, where the game was confirmed for PlayStation 4 and later, Xbox One. Not much is known about the title at present, and it is likely to be a while before the game hits stores.
