William Hill, a bookmaker based in the U.K., has tipped Call of Duty: Ghosts to take the Christmas no.1 crown this year.
The Activision military shooter is currently in favour with odds of 6/4 for the no.1 spot, beating out competition from fellow software heavyweights, FIFA 14 (2/1) and Grand Theft Auto V (4/1).
Joe Crilly, a spokesperson for William Hill, commented, “There is no doubting that GTA V will sit at the top of the games chart for a couple of weeks (at least until FIFA hits the shelves),” adding, “but will it sustain enough momentum to make it top for Christmas? The odds would suggest it will fall just short.”
Call of Duty: Ghosts is due out for multiple platforms in early November, while GTA V arrives next week for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. FIFA 14 arrives on current and next-generation systems later this month.
Last year’s Christmas no.1 spot was occupied by Call of Duty: Black Ops II, although the year before that, Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim managed to muscle its way to the top ahead of that year’s Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 3.
