Andrew House, Group CEO and President of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI), has said that the PlayStation 4 doesn’t include a camera since early adopters aren’t too fussed about the device.
Speaking with Business Spectator, House commented, “Certainly for the earlier part of the lifecycle, the vast majority of the audience that we speak to tells us that their primary wish is for the full controller interface and there’s not necessarily a huge emphasis being placed a camera interaction.”
Of course, one key factor in leaving the camera out of the equation is that it lowers the PS4’s price. Microsoft’s Xbox One for example is bundled with Kinect, bumping the price up $100 in comparison to Sony’s next-generation system.
House went on to note that the platform holder will consider “adjust messaging” in the future if core gamers express interest in utilizing the peripheral.
PS4 is due out in the U.S. on November 15 and in the U.K. and Europe on November 29.
