Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V has set a new record for launch week figures of a western title in Japan.
The critically-acclaimed crime opus sold 360,115 on PlayStation 3 alone, and shifted a further 26,612 on Xbox 360. This follows a glowing review in Japan’s Famitsu magazine, which awarded the game 40/40 - - the second western-made title ever to receive such a score.
In addition, GTA V has also surpassed the last known lifetime sales of GTA IV in Japan after just one week. The game enjoyed a similar feat in the U.K. recently, where it topped its predecessor's sales in three weeks.
Traditionally, western titles haven’t performed that well in the Land of the Rising Sun, although in recent years the likes of Call of Duty, The Elder Scrolls and indeed now GTA have managed to turn things around.
