Helix, the highly-anticipated sci-fi horror thriller from Battlestar Gallactica producer Ronald D. Moore, will officially premiere on Syfy on January 10, 2014 at 10pm ET.

The announcement follows the official trailer reveal which gives us an inkling of what to expect from the 13-episode series. The series follows a group of Disease Control researchers who are called out to the secure facility in the Artic to investigate a mysterious disease outbreak.

Judging by the trailer, the infection will be much deadlier than first thought and could evolve way beyond the facility; and we see a snapshot of how the virus turns people into zombie-type creatures. Consequently, the team find themselves in a life-and-death situation where their actions could affect the whole of mankind.

Working alongside Ron Moore on production is a star-studded team, including Lynda Rosen Obst (Contact), Steven Maeda (The X-Files and LOST). Among the cast are Billy Campbell (The Killing), who plays the leader of the Disease Control team, Jerry Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager), Neil Napier (Riddick) and Hiroyuki Sanada (LOST).

Other cast members include:
Dr. Julia Walker - Kyra Zagorsky (Soldiers of the Apocalypse)
Major Sergo Balleseros - Mark Ghanime (Emily Owens, M.D.)
Dr. Sarah Jordan - Jordan Hayes (House at the End of the Street)
Dr. Doreen Boyle - Catherine Lemieux (White House Down)
