PS4 won't get a price cut as quickly as PS3

18 November 2013

The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios has indicated we’re going to have to wait longer for a PlayStation 4 price cut in comparison to its predecessor.

Chatting with, Shuhei Yoshida revealed that the PS4 was manufactured using more standardized components, hence the reason it retails for $399 at launch.

This, of course, is substantially lower than the PS3’s day-one price, which clocked in at $599 for the 60GB model.

Said Yoshida-san: “because we’re already using more standardized components, the room for costs to come down mighty actually be slower than when we were starting with cutting edge stuff.”

In other words? It’ll take more time to see the price of PS4 drop. However, with such a wallet-friendly starting point, that shouldn't really come as a surprise.

PS4 is available in North America now and hits the U.K. and Europe on November 29.
