Respawn Entertainment has established Electronic Arts as the publisher for what would be the sequel to Xbox-exclusive Titanfall.
The rumor mill around Titanfall coming to the PlayStation brand has been stewing since last year with the presense of a PlayStation 4 controller in a Titanfall video as well as EA's statements towards Titanfall joining the shooter rotation with Call of Duty and Battlefield. Even Respawn Entertainment's co-founder Vince Zampella lead on the chance of seeing the Titanfall franchise dip in the multiple platform pool:
@AdanGarciaG Of course we will, just not the first Titanfall.— Vince Zampella (@VinceZampella) October 29, 2013
Gamespot was contacted by an EA representative recently, saying, "We do not comment on rumor or speculation," regarding the confirmation or denial of a Titanfall sequel coming to PS4. "Right now all our focus is on supporting all the fans worldwide enjoying Titanfall."
Until the terms of the contract and the intentions of both EA and Respawn Entertainment are clear, one can only guess if the Titanfall franchise will make it to different platforms outside of Microsoft. Even if EA published the first Titanfall, EA tends to generate games that cater to multiple consoles, so Respawn may receive some pressure to develop cross-platform depending on how the sales figures have panned out; Titanfall was expected to "eat Sony's lunch," according to Patcher.
Time will tell; would a Titanfall sequel be great on PS4?
