Sony has confirmed that PlayStation 4-exclusive racer DriveClub is making “spectacular” progress in light of the layoffs that have plagued developer Evolution Studios.
The platform holder also revealed that the troubled racer has gained a new director, following the amicable departure of Col Rodgers from Evolution.
Speaking to VideoGamer, a representative for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) confirmed that DriveClub is progressing well, and that a release date update is forthcoming
“The announced studio changes across WWS yesterday have not affected the development of DRIVECLUB or the DRIVECLUB team,” said the company, “which has always had great direction and continues to do so. We have full confidence that the game will deliver on its PS4 promise to be the first truly socially connected racing title and we are very pleased and excited by the calibre of work from Evolution Studios.
“The progress being made on the game is spectacular,” added Sony, “so we’re looking forward to sharing an update on development, release date and videos of the game in action in the weeks to come. We thank you for your patience and assure you, it will be worth the wait.”
DriveClub was originally due out alongside the PS4 at launch last November, but was delayed to an unspecified in 2014. Recently, it emerged that the game had apparently gone back to the drawing board.
