Call of Duty: Ghosts is the best-selling title for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to date, publisher Activision has announced (via EG).
The military shooter fended off some stiff competition from the likes of Electronic Arts and Ubisoft with Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, respectively.
Speaking on the milestone, Activision’s Eric Hirshberg described it “an important achievement as we establish Call of Duty as the first person action game of choice for next-gen.”
In addition to its success on Sony and Microsoft’s new home consoles, Ghosts also enjoyed strong sales in Q1 2014, becoming the second best-selling video game in the U.S. and Europe behind Skylanders Swap Force.
While the publishing powerhouse failed to divulge exact sales figures for Ghosts, it is believed that it performed lower than Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The next chapter in the franchise, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, is currently in development at Sledgehammer Games and due for release on November 4.
