Speaking during a meeting with investors this week, Sony Corporation CEO and President, Kazuo Hirai, said that half of all PlayStation 4 owners have taken out a subscription to PlayStation Plus.

The format holder previously confirmed that PS4 has sold over seven million units globally, meaning around 3.5 million customers have become a member of Sony’s flagship online service.

Elsewhere, the executive confirmed that Sony’s new console is making a profit based on hardware sales alone.

Sony said recently that it expects PS4 to outperform PS2 as its most profitable console to date.
