The July 2014 NPD report is in, which means a fresh batch of figures from Sony Computer Entertainment America to share.
The highlights paint a portrait of winning for PlayStation 4, which was number one in hardware sales for the seventh consecutive month. That’s all hardware, mind you, so PS4 has been leading the charge over Xbox One, Wii U, PS3, and Xbox 360 since the start of 2014.
Interestingly, July marks the second month that PlayStation platforms as a whole outsold the competing brands. That means more PS4 and PS3 consoles were sold than Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles, and Wii U and Wii consoles.
On the games side, The Last of Us Remastered led July’s next-generation sales charts (it totally deserves it), and more than half of all next-generation games were sold for PS4. More than 30 million copies of PS4 games have been sold, across retail and digital, since launch.
As revealed during Sony’s Gamescom presser earlier this week, PS4 has passed 10 million units sold to consumers, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation console in history.
