The Japanese voice actor behind Venom Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has called for fans not to boycott the release of the hotly anticipated stealth-action title amidst the bust-up between Hideo Kojima and Konami.

Writing on Twitter (via JunkerHQnet), Akio Otsuka, who has voiced Snake and his various incarnations (Big Boss, Solid Snake etc.) since 1998’s Metal Gear Solid, commented:

"The TPP team is the same, so please don't cancel pre-orders or encourage others not to buy it."

His comments come in wake of ongoing controversy between Kojima-san, the creator of the Metal Gear series, and Japanese video game maker Konami, who publishes the games.

Aside from shuttering Kojima Productions’ website and Twitter, Konami removed Kojima-san’s name from a number of products associated with the developer, including Silent Hills and various Metal Gear Solid titles.

Kojima-san himself is said to be involved with The Phantom Pain until its completion, after which he will then leave Konami following company restructuring. Konami also confirmed that new Metal Gear titles are planned for the future.

The Phantom Pain is due out in September for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
