Sony has released a free batch of PlayStation 4 avatars as part of its North American PlayStation Store update this week.

Those of you looking forward refreshing your PSN identity on Sony's current-generation console will have plenty of options to select from, including characters from popular video game such as Batman: Arkham Knight, Tearaway Unfolded, LittleBigPlanet 3, and Warframe. There's even a little nod to popular gaming culture with the official logo for gaming forum, NeoGAF. Check them out below and see if there's anything you fancy.

Black Friday is coming up, and Sony's already announced a tempting deal in the shape of a $299.99 PS4 bundle featuring a copy of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. The company also announce overnight that sales of the PS4 have hit 30.2 million worldwide since its launch in November 2013, putting it well ahead of the Xbox One in the hardware battle. The sales milestone comes hot on the heels of the format holder's decision to slash the price of its flagship console in North America and Europe, putting it on even stomping ground with Microsoft's machine.

Sony's lead over the Xbox One is so great that Microsoft has admitted that it may not be able to catch up to its leading rival going forward, although both consoles still have many more years of life left in them. PS3 is still continuing to sell respectively despite being nine-years-old, while the PS2 lasted well over a decade on the market before Sony pulled the plug on manufacturing. Speaking of PS2, it's worth noting that the PS4 is tracking well ahead of the multi-million selling platform in the U.K., which speaks volume about how well Sony's latest hardware has been received among the buying public.

Sony recently announced that it is indeed bringing PS2 emulation to the PS4.
