Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain scooped two awards at this year's PlayStation Awards in Tokyo, Japan today, although one person was conspicuous by his absence when Konami folk gathered on stage to collect the awards: Hideo Kojima.
The stealth-action title, which was released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 back in September to critical and commercial success, won the User's Choice Award and Platinum Prize. However, instead of Kojima-san collecting the awards like he usually has in the past when his games have won, a Konami PR chap instead walked on stage to accept the gongs (via Kotaku).
Kojima-san of course has been at the centre of a controversial falling out with the Big Cheeses at Konami, resulting in him leaving the company and parting ways with the Metal Gear franchise. He's been quiet since The Phantom Pain's release, although singer Donna Burke has said that he's still based in Tokyo and suggested we'll find out what he's up to soon enough.
Regardless, Kojima-san himself has insisted he will keep creating video games for the rest of his life, and has no regrets over the whole affair with Konami, despite whatever may have happened behind the scenes. Electronic Arts reckons the famed games designer and Konami should kiss and make up, though it seems the damage has already been done.
The Metal Gear mastermind is rumored to appear at The Game Awards 2015 this week, although nothing official has been confirmed in that respect. Read our full review of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain on PS4.
