According to a report on Digital Foundry, the day one patch for From Software’s Dark Souls III delivers a noticeable improvement to the PlayStation 4 version of the brutal dungeon crawler.
The third chapter in the critically acclaimed brutal action-RPG series was released worldwide yesterday for PS4, PC and Xbox One. As is usually the case in this day and age, the game was accompanied by a day-one patch, which integrates online functionality and fixes up a few bugs.
However, Digital Foundry discovered that the performance of the PS4 version of Dark Souls III has also improved as a result of the update.
Specifically, the site found that the game performs better, being more stable and experiencing fewer dips in the frame rate. While some issues still remain, Digital Foundry notes that the game overall performs much better than its original incarnation.

Dark Souls III attempts to spruce up the much-loved series paradigm by injecting Weapons Arts and faster combat into the mix, which takes much of its influence from its From Software stablemate, Bloodborne. Read our review of the game here.
The Souls franchise initially started out as a cult favorite with the PS3-exclusive Demon’s Souls back in 2009. However, beginning with 2011’s Dark Souls, the franchise found mainstream success, with Dark Souls II bringing it to new audiences and garnering critical acclaim in the process.
Despite its success however, creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has saids that there is unlikely to be a follow-up to Bloodborne or Dark Souls III. This is at odds with earlier comments however, when Miyazaki-san said that the third instalment in the franchise would not be the last.
The Souls franchise has sold eight million copies to date worldwide.
