Naughty Dog has announced that multiplayer downloadable content for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be released for free.
Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, the California-based studio outlined its full multiplayer DLC schedule for the hotly anticipated PlayStation 4-exclusive sequel, confirming new content will be released from summer 2016 - spring 2017.
The free content includes new maps and modes for the game’s online component, plus vanity items and other in-game goodies that can be unlocked through gameplay.

“This means that the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community won’t be fragmented by different types of DLC,” commented Lead Game Designer, Robert Cogburn, “and that those who are loyal in participating in the community will be rewarded. Our DLC release approach will represent an entirely new direction for Naughty Dog, and we are confident it will have a hugely positive impact and keep the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community thriving.”
“We strongly believe that players must be on an even playing field. To do this, we made Relics, a currency that can only be earned through gameplay and will be able to unlock all DLC, present and future. We will be putting future gameplay items ranging from Mysticals to Boosters into DLC Gameplay Chests. Each Chest will contain new gameplay items…Over time, Naughty Dog will release a variety of new maps, modes and gameplay items at no additional cost (including Co-op), that will introduce new rules and play styles.”
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is due out exclusively on PlayStation 4 on May 10, 2016. The game takes place a few years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and sees Nate coming out of retirement as a fortune hunter to track down a legendary pirate treasure.
Naughty Dog has confirmed that this will be the final Uncharted game it will make, although hasn’t ruled out the possibility of another studio taking up the task. The studio has at least one more game in store for PS4, although right now it hasn’t made any formal announcement on future projects.
In addition to the multiplayer content, Uncharted 4 will also receive single-player DLC for the first time in the series’ history.
