Capcom has said that it would love to move four million copies of Resident Evil 7: biohazard on launch day, the publisher’s EMEA Marketing Director, Antoine Molant, said during an interview with MCV.
Pre-orders for the hotly anticipated survival horror title are already said to be strong, and Molant said the response to the game has been extremely positive regardless of the region. Capcom has previously said that it is targeting four million shipments of Resident Evil 7 by the end of its current financial year.
Resident Evil 7 release date is slowly creeping up on us
"Commercially, [Resident Evil 7] is probably the biggest Capcom game we are releasing on the new machines," said Molant. "Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great," he added. "Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we’re pretty confident we are going to get there.
"All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it’s from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We’re not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there.”

On the subject of pre-orders, he added: "To be very frank, they’re very good. Keeping in mind the real pre-order campaign started a week ago with the Steelbook announcement and some of the Collectors’ Edition announcement... before doing that, they were quite above what we were expecting. We’ve got the previews coming out and some more launching in December. On that front, we’re very happy."
Resident Evil 7 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game takes place on the grounds of a seemingly abandoned plantation in the fictional town of Dulvey, Louisiana, where newcomer Ethan Winters is frantically searching for his missing wife, Mia, who was previously thought to have died some three years earlier.
You can download the Resident Evil 7 demo now from the PlayStation Store, which has been updated with its final ‘Midnight’ patch. As a result, players can now explore new rooms, acquire a handgun and get a taste of the game’s combat, and actually escape the house.
