Detroit: Become Human release date NOT confirmed for 2017

Sony clears up a recent gaff in its PlayStation 4 exclusive 2017 line up montage, which seemingly confirmed Detroit for a 2017 release.

Detroit: Become Human is not lined up for a 2017 release on PlayStation 4, Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SIE WWS) has clarified in a post on Twitter.

Yoshida-san’s comments come in light of a new video released by Sony earlier this week, which highlighted a number of upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive titles due for release in 2017. Among the games, which included the likes of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Gran Turismo Sport, were Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human and Dreams by Media Molecule.

However, when quizzed by a fan on Twitter, Yoshida-san confirmed that the listing was a mistake, indicating both games may not be released in 2017 after all. Quite when we’ll see them is anyone’s guess, as we’ve yet to get an official launch window for either title.

Detroit was announced during Sony’s E3 2016 press event, and follows Quantic Dream’s previous titles Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls as a story-driven adventure featuring multiple dialogue choices and branching pathways depending on your decisions made. The game’s concept evolved from a tech demo for PS3 released by Quantic Dream back in 2012, and follows android Kara as she attempts to find her place in a world where her fellow androids are employed by humans as servants. 

Media Molecule’s Dreams was showcased for the first time at E3 2015, and once again adopts the ‘play, create and share’ mantra shared by its spiritual predecessor, LittleBigPlanet. This time around, gamers use the DualShock 4 and PlayStation Move controller to manipulate objects by grabbing/pulling them, create new items, characters, and solving various puzzles. Each level in the game is separate into segments known as ‘dreams,’ and can be modified and altered depending on the items you obtain in-game. 

A beta for Dreams was originally planned to roll out in 2016, but was pushed back to this year. Still, at the very least it seems we’ll get a playable glimpse at Media Molecule’s latest offering at some point in 2017, even if it isn’t the full experience.
