Uncharted: The Lost Legacy gameplay teased, will be tonally different to past games

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is still very much an Uncharted game, but Naughty Dog says to expect a few gameplay changes.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is set to be ‘tonally different’ to previous installments in the Sony-exclusive action-adventure franchise.

That’s according to the game’s creative director, Shaun Escayg, who told Official PlayStation Magazine U.K. that while the upcoming standalone Uncharted adventure will put its own stamp on the series, it’s still very much a part of the same universe as Nathan Drake’s globe-trotting adventures.

"It [will] be tonally different, but in the same context of the Uncharted world,” commented Escayg.

He continued: "India's got really nice iconography: hidden temples and weird deities we can play off of, so it's a perfect setting for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.”

Elsewhere, Kurt Margenau, the game’s director, teased that we can expect something quite different to Uncharted 4 in terms of overall gameplay.

"I would say we're going a little more wide this time," he said. "I don't want to give too much away, but it's something we're excited about on the gameplay side, this kind of contrast of an urban setting and a rural setting; a tighter experience and more open experience."

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is due out on PlayStation 4 in 2017, and stars Chloe Frazer, an acquaintance of Nathan Drake who previously played supporting roles in both Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Frazer is joined by Nadine Ross, one of the main antagonists from Uncharted 4, with the action set after the events of that game. Uncharted 4 DLC coming soon

Series developer Naughty Dog has confirmed that Uncharted 4 and its associated post-launch content will be its final effort in the decade-old franchise, which has sold over 30 million units worldwide to date. Impressively, 8.7 million of those copies can be attributed to Uncharted 4, which launched last May on PS4.
