Resident Evil 7 is expected to ship 10 million copies during its lifetime, Capcom revealed during a Q&A with investors earlier this week.
Resident Evil 7 sales targeting huge milestone
While survival horror title achieved strong reviews from critics following its launch in January 2017, the game failed to meet Capcom’s initial sales target, falling short of the four million milestone set by the publisher prior to release. It wasn’t too far behind however, with Resi 7 managing 3.5 million shipments as of March 31, 2017.

However, Capcom noted that this is a “solid start” for the horror title, and that failing to achieve its target isn’t as big of a deal as previous years as “lifecycle for games is growing longer,” with digital sales also on the rise. As such, the company feels it can achieve 10 million shipments down the line, following on the success of multi-million sellers such as Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6.
"This title was received favorably by both fans and the media; further, its unit sales continue to grow even now," Capcom said. "We will work to achieve our unit sales goal this fiscal year by continuing to generate buzz with promotional activities that include events for fans, as well as with downloadable content."
Resident Evil 7 has seen two DLC expansion release to date in the form of Banned Footage Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, with a third coming at some point this year. The free story mission, Not a Hero, was initially due in spring 2017 but has now been pushed back as Capcom felt it needed some extra polishing.
