Resident Evil 2 Remake release date hinted at as ‘soon’ by Capcom

resident evil 2 remake release date

The upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake’s release date may be a lot sooner than expected, that is if a short comment by series producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi is anything to go by.

Speaking to website ‘Collider’, producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi – who’s been with the series since its inception back in 1996 – briefly mentioned when asked if he’d like to tease any upcoming projects that Resident Evil 2 Remake will be out ‘soon’.

Here’s a full transcript of the particular question:

Do you have any other upcoming projects you’d like to tease?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: The only thing I can tell you is about something that’s already out in the public. Resident Evil 2, a remade version, the game, will be out from Capcom soon.

If true, it’s certainly a surprise given the fact we’re yet to see a formal reveal trailer even though production on the project began back in August of 2015. Sadly, updates haven’t been exactly forthcoming bar the news this week that Alyson Court, the voice behind Claire Redfield, would not be reprising the role due to developer Capcom’s decision to go non-union.

Still, given the fact that Capcom is at the stage in development where contracts for localization have been finalized it’s safe to say that the game must be further along than many have anticipated.

While a surprise that it didn’t show up at Sony’s E3 2017 press conference we’d hazard a guess and say that we’ll see the formal reveal of Resident Evil 2 Remake at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in September or failing that, PlayStation Experience in December given that the game is inextricably linked with Sony’s original system.

And as for a release date, we’ll again go out on a limb and say early next year to coincide with the original game’s 20th anniversary. While not exactly ‘soon’ it still seems the most plausible at this point.
