South Park: The Fractured but Whole difficulty is tied to skin color

Here’s a unique but super controversial point of discussion: tying skin color to reflect in-game settings. In Ubisoft’s upcoming South Park: The Fractured but Whole, the game’s difficulty level is tied to what skin color your character is in the game!

During the character creation part of the RPG (around the 05:40 mark in the video below), when you select the game’s difficulty, the easier it is, the lighter your character’s skin color is. The harder the difficulty level, the darker your character’s skin color becomes. In case you’ve been living under a rock, it’s a clear and blatant dig at white people having everything in life easier, and vice-versa.

You can hear South Park’s Eric Cartman comment to "Don’t worry, this doesn’t affect combat. Just every other aspect of your whole life." What this equates to in-game, is how much money you receive and the way characters speak to you in the game. Again, it’s about racism and how it affects our everyday lives, and howmost people will have a hard time understanding the hardships that come with being born with a different skin color (that’s relative where you are, by the way).
