Bandai Namco Games has provided a new update on Tekken 7 sales, confirming the celebrated fighting game sequel has now sold over two million copies worldwide.
The publishing giant originally expected the game to sell 2.1 million copies by March 31, 2018. However, with two million now sold, the game is tracking well ahead of expectations. Tekken 7 launched for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in early June.
Bandai Namco Games announced in August that Tekken 7 sales had hit 1.6 million copies after just two months on sale.
This latest figure puts Tekken 7 ahead of Capcom’s Street Fighter 5, which has sold 1.7 million units to date. It’s also worth noting that Tekken 7 reached its latest milestone in a relatively short period of time, while Capcom’s fighter has been on sale since February 2016.
Tekken 7 has received numerous updates since release, mostly aimed at tweaking the game’s online performance. The game will receive new content later this year and into 2018, with Geese Howard the first post-launch guest character confirmed.
Back in August, Namco rolled out Ultimate Tekken Bowl mode, an update version of the popular mini-game introduced in Tekken Tag Tournament on PS2.
The Tekken (‘Iron Fist’ in Japan) franchise remains the best-selling fighting game series of all time. Tekken 3 is second only to Super Smash Bros. Brawl as the biggest-selling title in the genre to date, with over 8.5 million copies sold globally.
