PSU has obtained 12 minutes of all-new footage on Sony’s PlayStation Home Beta v0.98 beta for your viewing pleasure. Massive thanks go to fellow PSU reader, “Sky D.”

In the video, the player walks us through new features such as Listen@Home and shows off familiar areas including the Theater and Mall/Shopping Center. Also, if you watch carefully, you'll notice Sony has a God of War III clip playing on one of the giant TV screens in the main outdoor area.

Other features shown in the video include:

- Two different apartments
- Studio customization screen
- Character customization
- Game Center
- Avatar commands

I appreciate the idea of this but to be honest I am really not into these virtual worlds. Now no offence I love games as much as the next guy but this really isnt for me I will be sticking to the xmb I think.

It just doesnt excite me and feels like a novelty really but kids will love it no doubt as will some of you guys.

I will give it a try to se whats what but after that I will not join unless it becomes mandatory.... however I maybe proved wrong but what only interests me about this is to really meet friends rather thantthe whole virtual world thing. Hopefully it delivers on that front.

@ psycho_mantis : Ofcourse you'll get bored, this is a beta that is not the finished product. I promise you HOME won't look nothing like this when it's released.

quality graphics for a free......what would u call home???? is it a game or an app? im gunna go with app for now. but still its way better then what xbox offers their paying customers(wii like avatars lol). its a shame its region locked though(i think, i cant remeber) it would be nice to have all my friends over for a.........TEA PARTY?? i dunno. i suppose it would be a good place to go to meet other gamers. sony should include a little trophy bar thing above avatars heads so as u walk up to them you can tell if they'll kick ur but at any game or u can have a casual game(LBP). :)

I'm sorta like poster 2.  I think Home is extremely cool.  But in all honesty, I don't want to get caught up in it.  What will that mean for me?  That I enjoy running around in this social realm that has nothing to do with gaming?  I mean, even in an MMORPG I have some sort of objective.  Here I'm just wasting time "living"?  Maybe at 33 years old I'm too old to understand.  Like, I don't have a Myspace or Facebook or Youtube account or anything like that.  Not my deal.

HOME is cool although its nothing to with gaming, there's nothing wrong with it, its far better than what xbox & wii has other than that its a good thing for PS3. sometime down the line there will be tones of things in HOME that everyone could do & use. its just the start of HOME when it comes out.

what do you mean it has nothing to do with gaming, although still in its beta stages, Home will act as an online launch pad for PS3 games. games such as Warhawk are already integrated..instead of random searching in the game,. you can join HOME and fine a group of people you can get to know before playing the game. instead of joining a random game where little kids run their mouths

This was the main reason I got my PS3 OnLine (over a year ago now !!), Im still looking forward to this very much. But I really hope it is and still gets Bigger, I want to be able to spend hours at a time just exploreing and stuff. You see all these nice looking views of harbours and all that out of peoples appartments, but can you actually go to these places that you can see ?? I really hope so, After the long long delay there had better be plenty to do. Maybe I just been playing to much Oblivion, but thats wot Im talking bout, I know it not a game to, before you all start !! :) P.S.. Yet another vid that I cant watch on my PS3 !! Oh dear !!! Please dont make me turn on my PC, It hurts !!!

    • 12:50pm BST - September 22nd, 2008

Freaking sweet IDK right now though because after I updated the 2.43 firmware my PS3 would not even read any disk I put in the system........I tried putting my MGS4, GTA4, I even tried putting in my PS1 Fear Effect in there but the disk will not show up on the XMB..... I guess PS3 is another EPIC FAAAAAIL!!!!! What A waste of money... I should've waited like 3 years or so till I bought the peice of trash system ...Hopefully the new firmware would fix everything

It's not an game but a way for the online community to connect. It's likely ment to be more casual, and not intended for hours of straight use. If several of your buddies wanted to meet in your Home apartment to chat, and play a few games of Socom or whatever, then this is an option. What if their in another state? It's also totally optional. No need to keep complaining about a free, quality add-on that your not forced to use right...

Hey, I love my PS3 and Home looks fantastic...but...what's the point (of Home)?  I mean the look of the "world" and all the things you can do look amazing, but I just dont get it.  This should have been like real life...exploit the people in the system.  Home should be like real world, if thats the look youre going for, make it real.  As a user you should be able to do the things you want to do, get a job, be a bum, be a criminal etc.  How much more fun would it be if you were on the "good" side of the law and had to use the Home universe to track these people down.  No doubt thats an impossibility, a programming and logistical nightmare, but having somehting more to do in Home rather than walk around, play pool, or look at a tv would make this a lot more appealing (but I'm just one guy)

I agree, Sony needs to make this a priority more than anything. Pointless using the PS3's browser if you can't view anything.
