Insomniac Games' chief executive officer Ted Price has spoken out about recent media criticism of Sony’s PlayStation 3, observing that the new system appears to have become the “whipping boy” for the gaming press.

Speaking to, Price commented, "I think the PS3 has become the whipping boy for the press, quite honestly", adding, "I think everyone just wants to fill it full of arrows because Sony's had some pretty amazing success over the years. And it's easy to overlook that it's been, I think, the fastest selling PlayStation console."

Price’s observations indeed ring true according Chart Track, who noted that the console became the fastest selling system in the United Kingdom following its launch in Europe on March 23rd. Indeed, Price believes that "its human nature to want to take down the guy on top, and Sony has definitely gotten its share of... Mud [laughs]... But it's unfortunate”.

Moving on, Price turned his attention to the firm’s upcoming PlayStation 3 release, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, which, thanks to the success of Resistance: Fall of Man, is reportedly becoming "the largest and most complex game we've ever made".

"Resistance is still the number one PS3 game out there in terms of overall sales, and all of the knowledge [we gained from developing Resistance] we have now applied to Ratchet, and have been able to make Ratchet head and shoulders above Resistance in terms of the visuals and what you'll see in the game,” he revealed.

Insomniac recently celebrated being named one of the top medium sized videogame companies to work for in North America, and enjoyed rapid commercial success following the release of the company’s PlayStation 3 launch title, Resistance: Fall of Man. The firm’s next release, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is scheduled for release in North America this October.
