During the CES 2009 convention in Las Vegas, Sony Computer Entertainment head Kaz Hirai announced some impressive figures for the PlayStation 3 and its titles. Hirai states that our beloved PS3 exclusive LittleBigPlanet, has now sold 1.3 million copies and that the PlayStation Network has caught up to Xbox Live accounts, topping 17 million. Believe it or not, but that includes 2.1 million created in December 08 alone.

Hirai further discussed other stats, saying that the PSN has sold over 330,000 pieces of content. Also, LittleBigPlanet has seen an array user generated content in the few months following its release, having over 300,000 user generated levels created, with a total playing time of two years.

All in all, these are some exciting statistics and if Sony can keep things up in 2009, we may just see the PlayStation Network blow by Xbox Live.

    the only thing is that ive had multiple accounts, so who knows if that number is accurate to the amount of people who actually play online...

    anyways its good to know that the ps3 is catching up and with the year coming up its not hard to see why :)

    @Neon

    You cant have multiple accounts on live unless you pay for each account. You can have multiple users on one account. Accounts and users are 2 different things. I have 9 accounts on the PS3, buddy has 11 accounts on  his PS3.

    @ Uta

    Yes you can. You dont have to pay if its not a gold crap. If you are silver you don't have to pay but can't play online. He has different trophies on each accounts.

    Ah well you might be right. I dont know for sure if it was just different users on one account. Meaning each user has his own trophies on one account?

    I wish they would keep it all free, but for the people that want more perks allow a yearly fee of like 25 bones, and give free movie passes, dedicated download servers, the list could go on, you wanna talk about kicking the crap out of Xbox Live, thats how you do it.  Do everything Live does, but give the people more.

     Good news, but you also have to consider that PSN accounts are free and many people make multiple accounts. I have 3 myself so that I can access the Playstation store in other countries. Not to say the same doesn't happen with XBL accounts as most of my friends have many XBL accounts to themselves.

    I guess that kinda makes my point invalid huh?

    17 million users is great, but how many of that is the ps3.  You can have a psp and be one of the 17mil users.  Also I think even if you dont own either system you could make an account.

    @babiloo You dont seriously think that PSN has the monopoly on double or triple accounts! There are kids who create new 360 live accounts every month to take advantage of M$s "1st month free" gimick so that they get constant free online access to LIVE!!! All you need is a new e-mail address then register a new gamertag. If anybodys stats are a lie it's M$s.
