Gaming blog Destructoid has scooped what are allegedly the first solid details on Ubisoft’s hotly anticipated adventure sequel, Assassin’s Creed 2.
The info comes via an email from a fellow gaming journalist who claims to have seen an early build of the game in action, revealing a few interesting tidbits including the game’s setting, which places us in Venice in circa 15th/16th century.
After describing the events that transpire in the footage, the sender goes on to state that the game will be shown at a trade show later this year, possibly the E3 Media and Business Summit in June. In terms of a release date, it looks like we can expect the game in late 2009/early 2010.
See below for a full round up of the footage – label it as a rumor for the time being, though, as nothing is confirmed as of yet.
"A trailer for lo and behold, assassins creed 2, all be it in production and not finalised i will explain what i saw
Venice 15th/16th century, The camera pans onto the city focusing on the hussle and bussle of daily life. think the civilians from assassins creed 1 but more interactive with each other. During this scene we see a man passing money to the hands of an attractive girl, (originally i didn't notice this but was told by the rep that it does happen).
2 Men, a relatively large one and a skinny one step off a boat with a cohort of guards and proceed to a Square within the city, where a masked ball was taking place. Every ones dancing around, not much to say here other than that it was a ball.
The girl seen previously accepting the bribe, approaches the skinnier of the two men and takes him off to the crowd, for a dance, she was good looking, who'd say no. The camera spins around them centrally, but focusing on the dancers as a whole.
A guy comes out from the side, dressed in dancers garb and proceeds to stab this skinnier man in the neck, with what looks like the finger blade from AC1. Man dies spewing blood, garbble garbble etcetc.
The 2nd of the men, the fatter one, notices this and proceeds to run, after sending the guards after the protagonist. Who, by this time has reached the roof and runs parallel to the target who continues to run on the floor. The player jumps off onto the ground and the fat man stops. commenting on the fanciness of the jump.
Facing off, the fat man continues to speak. i cant quite recall the exact words but it was something along the lines of
"It was a shame that your mother had to die, she was a beautiful woman ... Your father on the other hand, it was due to your arrogance that he died"
The protagonist then shoots at the fat Man with a bolt pistol, and the trailer ends."

I like the new setting, but I guess that means we're not playing as Altair this time around.
I hope they do away with all the sci-fi crap.

Sounds pretty much the same, gameplay wise. I like that. Let's just hope they give us more things to do, and side-missions that aren't copied & pasted from previous cities/towns. I just wish this game isn't centred around guns. I liked using swords in the last one.

Hopefully the second one is less repetitive. I still loved it though. It had a really good story. Hopefully this one isn't too focused on guns unless they get the controls for it down. Don't want clunky gun controls like it was with the fighting in AC1.

I liked the first one. Mabye this one will be a little bit better though, and less repetative.

if the gameplay is the same this is a definite no buy for me i want an actual improvement in the combat none of this blatant 3 second window to pull the counter/insta-kill button and only one guy attacking at a time,
i also dont see them actually letting us use a gun it wouldnt come off to well with the perspective of the first one and this is the 15th century theres no such thing as a quiet gun.
im intrigued as to whether or not we will be playing the same person as in the first one present time wise(it was alluded the second game would actually be him as the assasin trying to stop thier dastardly plans and the 3rd his son or sum such) -

I loved the first one. Can't wait for the second. I'd love it if they'd focus on other countries in sequels to this series (say....JAPAN?) As for repitition: that is what real assassins do: get intel, learn the target's habits and schedule, scope out the areas, plan routes. EVERYTIME. To do otherwise is to risk death or capture...

For all you worried about guns.......a bolt is what the arrow is called that is shot from a crossbow. I do believe that a crossbow is what the writer was talking about.
And if you guys remeber from the first game, the guy in the lab wasn't Altair.....he was a decendent of Altair, so no in this game or any other one released in the series will you play as Altair again. The guy will be reliving genetic memories from more of his ancestors.

The first AC was amazing, 10x better than Uncharted. I hope they make the 2nd one even better!
