Speaking during a panel at the Game Developer’s Conference last week, Blue Castle Games confirmed that upcoming zombie sequel Dead Rising 2 will include up to 800 different clothing textures for the undead as well as full multiplayer support.

Utilizing a program known as ‘mental mill’, the developer is attempting to overcome a number of design hurdles including incorporation of unique eye, skin and cloth shading, which it hopes to apply to large groups of enemies for a more authentic look.

Furthermore, it is expected that gamers will be able to experience up to a mammoth 6000 characters on screen during multiplayer sessions, though Capcom themselves haven’t been able to prove any concrete details on the matter.

Dead Rising 2 is due for release on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360.

6000 characters on-screen at the same time? How can you even fit 6000 characters on-screen? Did you see Heavenly Sword's final battle? Is it going to be like that? Only even tinier? Or do they just mean 6000 characters present at a time... say 100 in one room, 300 in another, but all in the same map?

Well I wonder if it's possible. I highly doubt they'll do it, but I still have hope.

Can't be bothered with sequels to games that didn't come out on the platform I bought. My standards are too high.

You can never have too many zombies. Hopefully with the current generation of consoles we're at now, they can do it without slowdown or mundane graphics.

Overall it is nice to see this game possibly coming to the PS3

I really doubt that there will be up to 6000 zombies on screen for either version, I mean I don't think the 360 can take it and they won't make the PS3 version better than it.

Shouldn't something be done about every bit of News getting spammed by "First!"s and so on?  Spam shouldn't be tolerated.

Does anybody know how many zombies could be on screen at once in the original game? 6000 sounds ridiculous.  And it's nice to see this won't be another game loaded with clone characters.

If 6000 is true, then my dreams have come true.  I loved the first one, but the only problem about it was the time limits so you felt like you were getting rushed through the whole game.  Hopefully they take out the time limit thing and make it so that you can explore the city.

You just have say 100 zombies with the physics and A.I behaviour and the rest (furthest away) would just be graphics.   Thats how they would do it. I think.
